It was a clash of interests as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State staged protests at the gates of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While the APC supporters and other sympathisers from some other political parties in the State claimed that the INEC had recruited ad-hoc staff that were card carrying members of the PDP, the PDP supporters said they had uncovered a game plan by the electoral body to short change Nigerians in favour of the APC.
A clash ensued as both parties wanted their issues addressed at the same time. The police force tried to control the situation, as the parties attempted to overpower each other.
In response, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Gesila Khan and members of her team refuted the allegations.
The REC however, said that INEC remained a nonpartisan body.
