Wikipedia describes Haman from the Book of Esther as, “an archetype of evil and persecutor of the Jews. Having attempted to exterminate the Jews of Persia, and rendering himself thereby their worst enemy.”
Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, Chief Rabbi of Efrat on Saturday night compared US President Barack Obama to Haman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Mordechai.
Speaking at the Jerusalem Great Synagogue, the American born Riskin said that he could not understand what was going through Obama’s mind.
“The President of the United States is lashing out at Israel just like Haman lashed out at the Jews,” he said.
“I’m not making a political statement,” he clarified, “I’m making a Jewish statement.”
The Rabbi’s reaction comes from the treatment Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has received from the Obama administration in public. But the meat of the Rabbi’s comments comes from the treatment Israel itself is receiving from the Obama administration. From declassifying Israeli nuclear secrets to being cheerleaders for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, Obama has not been a friend of the Jewish State.
Now the administration is threatening to review its relations with Israel and support for the tiny country in the United Nations, which has for decades attempted to weaken Israel’s hold on the Levant.
America has been Israel’s protector since the nation was founded after the Holocaust in World War II. It seems the Jewish people may be waking up to the fact that this role for America is changing for the worst under President Obama.
