Suspected Boko Haram elements attacked Gombe – IG of Police
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, confirmed on Saturday in Abuja that some terrorist elements struck in Gombe but that they were repelled by security agencies.
Speaking to newsmen after monitoring the election in the FCT, Abba, however, said that the action of the suspected Boko Haram terrorists did not disrupt voting in the state.
“There were strikes by terrorists in Gombe, not bomb incidents. I want to also tell you that the situation was managed immediately.
“In the towns where the Boko Haram elements entered, the election continued.
“That shows the resilience of members of the public that even after terrorists have entered their domain and left, they came back and continued with the exercise,’’ the I-G said.
He also said that apart from the Gombe incident, there were also incidents in some other states which security agencies were able to contain.
“A good example is the fact that there were those who do not want to see the success of this election and so planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IDEs).
“But we were able to detonate them before they could even explode, one or two IEDs that exploded did not make any impact.
