Former Mets player, 50, 'is shot dead by his girlfriend, 44, in murder-suicide while their one-year-old son is at home'

A former Mets player,Darryl Hamilton has  been shot dead by his girlfriend Monica Jordan,- who then turned the weapon on herself while their one-year-old son was at home.

The bodies were found at her house in Pearland, Texas at 4.45pm Sunday - Father's Day.

Hamilton, an MLB Network analyst, was found next to the front door and with several bullet wounds. Jordan apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in another part of the property. 

At this point it does not appear that there was any kind of struggle. The incident occurred just inside the front door.'

However couple's 14-month-old son wasn't harmed inside the house, he was taken into the care of Texas Child Protective Services.

While the deaths are investigated.

 Officers told the Houston Chronicle that they went to the home after getting a call about an argument inside it.

Some Neighbors also told Click2Houston that Jordan had called her ex-husband for help before the shooting and the ex-husband then called 911.

The Chronicle reported that the home belongs to Jordan.

Hamilton, who hailed from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, played 13 seasons as a Major League outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies before finishing his career with the New York Mets in 2001.

He batted .291 with 1,333 hits, 707 runs scored and 454 RBI in his career, according to MLB.com. 

He later moved to Pearland and became an on-air analyst for the MLB Network in 2013.

As well as the toddler, Hamilton leaves behind two school-age sons, Donovan and Julian, from his previous marriage to model Ursaline Steinke. Before their relationship, he was also married to Access Hollywood anchor Shaun Robinson.

Just hours before his death, he posted an image to his Facebook page showing him and his two oldest sons in 'Hamilton' baseball jerseys.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred paid tribute to Hamilton as 'talented and personable' in a statement on Monday. 

'All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy,' he said

'Darryl followed a successful 13-year career on the field by assembling a multifaceted career in our game, working for MLB Advanced Media and in our baseball operations department before moving on to MLB Network.

'He was a talented and personable individual, and we were proud to call him a member of the Baseball Family. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest sympathies to Darryl's family and his many friends throughout our game.'
