The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday rejected the calls for the sale of the country’s national assets. On its social media handle, the Senate said it “rejected prayer 3 of the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee which sought for the sale of National Assets to shore up Foreign Reserve”.

Avengers blow up Bonny export line...

On Friday night,the Niger Delta Avengers blew up the crude oil export line in Rivers State.
In a statement,by Mudoch Agbinibo,the spokesman of the militant group that was posted on the group’s website on Saturday he said the attack was to protest against the “over dramatization of the so-called dialogue and negotiation process on the side of President Muhammadu Buhari and his government”.
The group,had initially ceased its attack oil facilities since the Chief Edwin Clark-led dialogue team intervened to allow for a dialogue with the Federal Government, said it was still open to dialogue.
It, however, said would only accept a peace process that comes with honour.
NDA warned that it would resist any military action, stressing that the posture of President Muhammadu Buhari was not reassuring.
A security source confirmed the attack to our correspondent, but declined to comment further as he was not authorised  to speak on the matter.

EFCC detective arrested for collecting N15m bribe...

A Deputy Detective Superintendent of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Uzodinma Agbazue, has been arrested for allegedly receiving a N15m bribe from a lawmaker who is currently under EFCC investigation.
The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, that the suspect was arrested on September 15, 2016 following an allegation by a lawmaker that the operative collected N15m from him with a promise to give him soft landing by compromising the investigation.
According to the complainant, Agbazue allegedly approached him, claiming he had been mandated by the officer handling the case to discuss and reach an agreement on how to “kill the case”.

Charlotte: Wife releases video of police shooting her husban

The wife of the African American man who that was shot dead in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday released dramatic video footage of the moments before and after her husband was shot by police.
Police in the city have so far refused to publicly release their own body-cam and dashcam footage that they say shows Keith Lamont Scott posed a threat to officers.
The smartphone footage filmed by his wife Rakeyia Scott, released by her lawyers to the New York Times and NBC News, will add to mounting pressure on Charlotte authorities to make the video public.
The two-minute, 16-second clip does not show the shooting itself, but captures the moments leading up to it, as Scott’s wife pleads with officers not to open fire.

Headed by Justice Sylvester Ngwata,The seven-man panel affirmed the election after listening to the closing statements of all the counsel.

Naira appreciates against dollar at interbank market...

On Monday,The naira  appreciated against the dollar at the interbank market.
The currency gained 1.4 points to exchange at N307.25 to the dollar, from N308.69 it exchanged on Friday, representing an appreciation of 0.5 per cent.
However,it stabilized at the parallel market, exchanging at N425 to the dollar, a figure it had maintained for three days, while it traded against the Pound Sterling and Euro at N550 and N470 respectively.
Trading at the Bureau De Change segment of the market also showed the naira stabilising against the dollar, closing at N422 while it settled at N549 and N470 against Pound Sterling and Euro, respectively.

New York bombing suspect captured in police shootout;

On Monday, Ahmad Khan Rahami,the Afghan-born American suspect wanted in connection with weekend bombings in New York and New Jersey was taken into custody after being wounded in a shootout with police, an official said.

Boko Haram strike leaves eight dead;

On Sunday,At least eight people were killed outside a church in an attack carried out by gunmen on bicycles in northeast Nigeria by suspected Boko Haram members. 
The attack happened shortly after morning service on Sunday in Kwamjilari village, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) east of the town of Chibok, in Borno state.
The attackers set fire to homes and fields of maize that were almost ready for harvest, according to a local chief in Kautikeri, who also said eight people were killed.
The chief said soldiers were later deployed to Kwamjilari from Chibok — the scene of a notorious kidnapping in 2014 when more than 200 schoolgirls were seized.

National Assembly reconvenes Sept. 20;

The National Assembly Management on Tuesday announced the postponement of resumption date for Senate and House of Representatives from Sept. 13 to Sept. 20.
Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Omolori, in a statement, requested all lawmakers to resume sitting on the rescheduled date. The National Assembly had on July 21 proceeded on a seven-week recess to resume on Sept. 13.

On Tuesday,First Nation Airways  reassured its passengers that the airline would resume flight operations on September 15.
The Airline’s Director of Flight Operations, Capt. Chimara Imediegwu, made this known at a news conference in Lagos.
The airline had on August 17 announced the suspension of its operations to enable aircraft in its fleet undergo engine maintenance.
Imediegwu said it was not true that the airline was on the verge of folding up.
He said it voluntarily grounded the aircraft at enormous cost to await the arrival of the manufacturer’s team.

First Nation Airlines suspends operations...

Barely 24 hours after Aero Contractors Airlines announced suspension of its operations, another domestic carrier, First Nation Airlines, has followed suit, suspending its operations.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) made this known on Thursday.
Aero Contractors Airlines, Nigeria’s second largest commercial carrier, announced an indefinite suspension of its scheduled flight services and its staff with effect from Thursday, September 1, 2016. The Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Muhtar Usman, explained that the decision was taken in order to ensure that the airline carried out the required maintenance of its aircraft. 

Usman, however, refuted claims that some of the domestic airlines were winding down their operations regardless of the fact that they had suspended flight services. 
Usman insisted that the domestic carriers had not wound down their operations, but were “merely suspending their operations temporarily to enable them undertake certain operational overhaul and strengthen their overall operational outlay.

Gov. Obiano condoles with Sen. Oduah over son’s death;

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra has condoled with the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Sen. Stella Oduah on the death of her son, Chinedu.
In a condolence message to the senator signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Emeka Ozumba in Awka on Thursday, Obiano said he received the news about the death with deep regret.
