TRIBUNAL: Isiaka tenders 4,000 documents, closes case...

Gboyega-IsiakaA

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate in April 11 governorship election in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Isiaka on Tuesday, closed their case at the ongoing governorship tribunal in the state after tendering over 4, 000 evidences before the court and having called nine witnesses.

The last witness, Benjamin Ibikunle told the court that the petitioners deserve victory, saying Isiaka and the PDP had approached the court with a very valid case and expect nothing but victory.  The witness, who was confronted with some of the exhibits before the court maintained that issues raised by the respondents during the cross examinations were not substantial enough to throw out the petition insisting that the Petitioners had provided enough evidence to prove that the election was marred with irregularities and malpractices.  PDP and Isiaka had approached the tribunal, challenging the result of the election, which returned Senator Ibikunle Amosun for second term in office, saying the results in 9 local councils out of the 20 contained irregularities and were not done in conformity with the electoral law.  The first respondent, governor Ibikunle Amosun is expected to open his defence on Wednesday September 2nd. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the three-man panel Justice Henry Olusiyi, has called on the respondents to cooperate with the court and not seek for unnecessary adjournment when the defence starts.
