Floyd Mayweather ends his phenomenal career under a shadow, George Groves sees world championship light at the end of his dark tunnel.
Mayweather goes into his 49th and what he insists will be his last fight in the immediate aftermath of doping allegations.
As
he protests his innocence, Groves promises to shine on the undercard by
defeating WBC super-middleweight champion Badou Jack in knockout style.
If he goes
ahead with his planned retirement it will leave questions hanging over
the Vegas Strip. If he fights a couple more times, under the stringent
testing conditions he imposes, he can reinforce his reputation as a
leading anti-drugs campaigner.
By
contrast, no problems of any kind are besetting Saint George of
Hammersmith as he prepares for his third world title challenge.
The
doubting days which followed his second, and most brutal, knockout by
Carl Froch are behind him now. He has kicked his risky habit of leaving
it to the last 48 hours to take off any surplus poundage.
Groves looks as relaxed and happy as he is fit and healthy.
