Niger Delta University shut down till further notice...

Prof. Humphrey Ogoni, The Vice Chancellor of  Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Amassoma,  on Tuesday directed all students of the institution to embark on a mid-semester break.
Why?

The students demonstrated over an academic regulation of the Faculty of Engineering. The students who were in solidarity with the affected final year undergraduates went on the rampage to disrupt academic activities necessitating the management to shut down the school’s activities indefinitely.
The regulation will affect many students in the Engineering Faculty of the school from graduating in the next academic session.
About 20 students who did not clear their core engineering courses of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in their lower levels were affected by the new regulation of the faculty.

The Vice Chancellor  Prof. Humphrey Ogoni, said the management had reached an understanding with the affected students to enable them to graduate.
According to the Vice Chancellor  the protest was fueled by other students who had been advised to withdraw because of their failure to measure up.
The VC said the university authorities would review the regulation and that the students would now be informed of the resumption date at the appropriate time.
