House of Assembly in Rivers State confirms Daisy Okocha as Chief Judge...


The appointment of  Justice Daisy Okocha as the chief judge of Rivers state has been confirmed by The Rivers State House of Assembly.
The confirmation done by the state’s lawmakers was sequel to  a letter from Governor Nyesom Wike requesting their  approval to confirm Justice Daisy Okocha as the substantive Chief Judge  of the state.

The decision of the Assembly came shortly after the ruling of the Court of Appeal  in Port Harcourt, which ignoring the judgement of the Federal High Court that voided the appointment of Okocha as Chief Judge of the state.
Hon Adams Dabatorudima Speaker of the Assembly, announced the confirmation Thursday after a debate and vote by the  Assembly during an emergency plenary.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has set aside the decision of the Federal High Court and empowered Wike to approve Okocha’s  appointment as the CJ of the state.
Lead lawyer to the National Judicial Council (NJC), Mr James Mmuo, said with the judgements so far, the state Assembly is entitled to confirm Justice Daisy Okocha’s appointment.
