Two planes collide near San Diego's Brown Field; 3 dead

At least three people were killed Sunday morning when two small planes collided over Otay Mesa in eastern San Diego County near the Mexican border, authorities said.
The planes -- a twin-engine Sabreliner and a single-engine Cessna 172 -- ran into each other about two miles northeast of the Brown Field airport at about 11 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

One plane was from Brown Field, the other from Gillespie Field in El Cajon, and both were attempting to land at Brown Field, the FAA said.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department confirmed three deaths. Reports of a fourth person involved in the collision have not been confirmed, according to CalFire.
Wreckage from the crash caused a fire in a vacant area. The flames were quickly extinguished, and no structures were damaged, officials said.
