The Federal Government has put the death toll from Lassa fever outbreak in 10 states at 40. There were 86 reported cases.
Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, disclosed this while speaking on the outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever at the weekend.
Adewole advised communities to improve on hygiene, including food protection practices.
He also urged the public to avoid contact with rodents and rats as
well as food contaminated with rat’s secretions and excretions.
According to the minister the affected states have been advised to intensify awareness creation on the signs and symptoms of the disease.
The affected states are Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Rivers, Edo, Plateau, Gombe and Oyo.
