2016 Budget: Senate Schedules Commencement of Debate for January 19th...

Bukola Saraki  The Senate President,has said the senate will commence debate on the 2016 Appropriation Bill that was presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari as from Tuesday 19th January.

Saraki, on Wednesday made the announcement during plenary.

“The FIFA emergency committee decided, on 9 January 2016, to dismiss Jerome Valcke from the position of FIFA secretary general with immediate effect,” said a statement.
The Frenchman, effectively the number two behind president Sepp Blatter, who has been banned for eight years, was suspended on September 17 over allegations that he helped sell 2014 World Cup tickets on the black market.

New Agoa deadline set as Obama announces SA suspension date...

U.S. President, Barack Obama, on Tuesday, said America would suspend duty-free benefits for South Africa on March 15, a move that could cost South Africa up to seven million dollars.

He said this in Washington, adding that the suspension was because South Africa failed to meet the requirements of a trade deal.

The  Peoples Democratic Party spokesperson Mr. Olisa Metuh on Tuesday tore the statement he made to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding his alleged involvement in the $2.1billion arms fraud being investigated by the anti-graft agency.

Mr. Metuh ripped the statement after it was presented to him by the investigating officer for endorsement, as part of preparations for his prosecution.

2016 Budget missing at NASS...

The 2016 budget proposal that was submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari  on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, is missing.

President Buhari had presented the budget proposal to the joint session of the National Assembly in December of 2015.

The news of the missing document was announced during a closed door session at the National Assembly that lasted 90 minutes.

EFCC arrests Director General of NBC, Emeka Mba...

 

The Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC)  Emeka Mba,  was arrested by operatives of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday over an alleged N15 billion fraud.

He has since been taken to the EFCC’s headquarters where he is currently being grilled.

Just last week, some detectives stormed the headquarters of the NBC, ransacking computers and files in the Finance and Account unit.

During the operation, some key Accounts staff were taken away.

Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party the Present Governor of Bayelsa State, has been officially declared as winner of the December 5th and January 10th Bayelsa State Gubernatorial elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
Dickson polled 134.998 votes to beat his closest rival, former Governor Timipre Sylva who polled 86, 852 votes.

Lassa fever: Minister issues steps to avoid infection...

The Federal Government has put the death toll from Lassa fever outbreak in 10 states at 40. There were 86 reported cases.
Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, disclosed this while speaking on the outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever at the weekend.
Adewole advised communities to improve on hygiene, including food protection practices.
He also urged the public to avoid contact with rodents and rats as well as food contaminated with rat’s secretions and excretions.

According to the minister the affected states have been advised to intensify awareness creation on the signs and symptoms of the disease.
The affected states are Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Rivers, Edo, Plateau, Gombe and Oyo.

French fashion designer Andre Courreges, symbol of a futuristic style revolution in the 1960s and synonymous with mini-skirts and little white boots, has died at the age of 92.

"Clothes should escape from conventions," Courreges once said. Fashion, he thought, should be "a way of life".

The style icon died in the posh western Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine. His funeral will be held in his southern hometown of Pau on Monday, the company said.

Wole Soyinka replies Rivers govt...

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has described as the statement by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Dr Austin Tam-George, that the state would demand refund from him (Soyinka) if he collected cash from the  N82 million allegedly spent by immediate-past Governor, Rotimi Amaechi on a dinner to honour him as ‘abominable distractions,’ 

Soyinka,has said that the allegation has made him saddened and ‘truly despair”, he added that he was indifferent  to it.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has appointed a former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru to head the Board of Trustees for the N25billion State Employment Trust Fund (ETF).

In a statement  that was signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, Gov. Ambode also approved the appointment of nine others to serve as members of the Board of Trustees of the ETF, which is geared towards addressing the challenge of youth unemployment as well as promote wealth creation through entrepreneurial development in the state.

Solomon Arase,The Inspector-General of Police, IGP has warned police officers who are in the habit of indiscriminate checking of personal information on mobile phones of members of the public to stop such practices with immediate effect.

In a Police Circular titled: “REPORTS OF ALLEGED INDISCRIMINATE ACCESSING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ON MOBILE PHONES BY POLICE PATROL TEAMS” dated 31st December, 2015, signed by the Force Secretary, AIG Patrick D. Dukumor and dispatched to all police state commands and formations nationwide on Monday 4th January, 2016, Arase directed that severe disciplinary actions would also be taken against any officer (s) and their Supervisors (DPOs, Area Commanders and Sectional Heads) against whom a proven report of illegal mobile phone checks not supported by appropriate court orders or operational exigency is made.

Director of Radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu's Wife Uchechi reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday.

The birth of Kanu’s child was announced in a message posted on the Facebook page of Radio Biafra London.

The statement read: “Good morning great Biafrans. With joy in our hearts and celebration of new arrival to IPOB family, our first lady, the wife of our eminent leader, Joshua Nnamdi Kanu, has delivered a healthy baby boy. Mother and child are in good health.”
