Louis van Gaal stormed out of his weekly press conference after only five minutes, with the Manchester United boss taking aim at the media.

Van Gaal has been under intense pressure from the media and the Manchester United fans after a poor run of results, which saw the club exit the Champions League and slip to fourth in the Premier League.

Last weekend’s defeat at home to Norwich was followed by several reports in the English media that Louis van Gaal would be sacked, and replaced by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

In the run up to the Boxing Day clash against Stoke City, Louis van Gaal turned up to his weekly press conference, but stormed out after a furious tirade at the media.

Van Gaal said when asked about Arsene Wenger’s defence of the Dutchman earlier on Wednesday, “Has anybody in this room not a feeling to apologise to me?”

”I think I was already sacked, I read.

“I have been sacked. My colleague (Mourinho) was here already. So you think I want to talk to the media? I am here only because of the Premier League rules. I have to talk with you.

“But I can only see when I say something that you use my words in your context. And I want to say only I have tried to lift the confidence of my players. I have done everything this week.

“I held meetings with the players with my members of staff, I hold a Christmas lunch, I did a speech and I feel the warmth and support of everybody in Carrington.

“We are not in a good position but four weeks ago we were first in the PL and in four weeks’ time we can be back in that position again.”

When asked if speculation is a part of the job, added: “No I don’t think that you can do that because you have to stick by the facts and when I get calls off Alex Ferguson and David Gill and Ed Woodward because you are creating something that is not good, what is not being the facts, now I have to answer questions.”
