The Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike has renamed Liberation Stadium and the Old Aba Road after General Yakubu Gowon.
In a statement by Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the governor on Electronic Media, said the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt,
“Is now to be known as Yakubu Gowon Stadium. The Old Aba Road is also to be known as Yakubu Gowon Road.”
Governor Wike had on Saturday promised to immortalize General Gowon (retd) for creating Rivers State when he was the Head of State in 1967.
