Revealed: Homer and Marge SEPARATE in season 27 of The Simpsons… and why Girls star Lena Dunham is to blame

I've been told that i watch too much TV series and whats your business? But i do sha. Some might say its unhealthy, But what else I'm I supposed to do? I don't like participating in real life. Anyways, The other day it was "Bart Simpson" today it's "Homer and Marge Simpson". Is this a sign? Is the TV series coming to an end? I hope not!

Calling it quits: The Simpsons' executive producer Al Jean revealed to Variety that in the upcoming 27th season, Homer and Marge will legally separateĀ
Homer and Marge are one of TV's longstanding couples, sticking it out for over 26 seasons now - the series has been on since 1989.
However, in an interview with Variety, the series' executive producer Al Jean has revealed that the animated couple are headed for a split in the upcoming 27th season, set to begin this fall.
'It’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy - a chronic neurological disorder that affects the control of sleep, causing uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep, even during activities that demand attention - and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage,' he spilled.

However, the narcolepsy isn't the only thing to blame, as the EP shared that Homer has his eyes on another woman.
The new apple of Homer's eye will be one of the upcoming season's many guest stars, and is coming off of another guest stint, on popular ABC series Scandal.
'Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham,' Al shared, adding: 'We’ll have cameos from the other women from Girls.'
Previously, Homer had considered cheating on his longtime spouse in a season five episode titled The Last Temptation of Homer, which first aired in 1993.
The cartoon dad went so far as to visit a hotel room with new coworker Mindy (voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer), though he was plagued with guilt because of Marge and the kids, and eventually called it off, reuniting with his loving wife.
Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon will also make a guest appearance on the season, as 'a homeless woman who turns out to be an incredible singer.'
She will be befriended by Lisa in one episode, in which the singing will be performed by Natalie Maines.
But hope you didn't put away those tissues, because in more bad news, the EP revealed that Sideshow Bob will also make an appearance, in which 'we finally see him do something he's (click to read)wanted to do for 25 years.

On a lighter note, Al also shared that Spider Pig - akak Plopper, Homer's pal from The Simpsons Movie - is set to make his return in an upcoming episode.
And there will be a Bart-centric episode based on the Oscar-nominated film Boyhood, which will feature a flashback/flash forward motif.
Al explained: 'We go to various points in his life and his life to come which I think came out really well.'
The EP also discussed the upcoming election, speaking on whether or not the popular cartoon dad would be casting his vote.
'We’re definitely going to have Homer vote in 2016,' he gushed. 'One aspect of the pickup that made me happy is that Homer can vote again.'
'He voted for Romney in 2012 because he invented Obamacare. He tried to vote for Obama in 2008 but all his votes went to McCain.'
When asked for hints about the upcoming vote, Al teased: 'We’re not sure who the candidates are yet, but whatever he wants it’s not going to happen.'
The 27th season of The Simpsons premieres this fall on Fox.
