Police found
'slaves' and a luxury fleet of supercars worth thousands of pounds
during a dawn raid on a travellers' camp this morning.
A
total of 14 people have been arrested after police seized 'potential
victims of forced labour', a £155,000 Ferrari, a £90,000 Range Rover and
a Bentley golf cart at sites in Cardiff, South Wales.
Three
campsites, Shirenewton, New House Farm and Newport Road, were stormed
at 6am and officers say they discovered a variety of offences had been
committed.
They include
alleged high-value extraction of electricity, high-value theft and
money laundering and officers also seized a significant amount of cash
as well as the fleet of supercars.
A
metallic blue Bentley Continental golf cart, thought to be worth
£20,000 and similar to the one owned by boxing world champion Floyd
Mayweather, was found at the Shirenewton site.
Police
also took away a red Ferrari California T and a white Range Rover Sport
- and posted photographs of the fleet on their social media pages.
It was part
of Operation Baracuda, led by South Wales Police and assisted by the
National Crime Agency, Cardiff Council and British Transport Police, to
crackdown on major crime in the city.
One officer said: 'It was more like a luxury car showroom than an average caravan site.'
Shirenewton
is one of two residential gypsy and traveller caravan sites managed by
Cardiff Council which together have over 80 pitches.
