The Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has called on security agencies to ensure that the Saturday Rivers legislative re-run election is violence free.
The party gave the advice in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, on Friday in Abuja.
Adeyeye said that the advice was important following an “open declaration of war” by the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress during its rally on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
Adeyeye quoted the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John-Odigie Oyegun as saying: “If they push you, push them back.
“If they slap you, slap them back. As you can see, we came in full force; the whole federal might is here.”
He also quoted Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Umar Ganduje of saying, “If they shoot at you, take cover and shoot them back.”
Adeyeye said that such statement was sad and a complete reversal of all the democratic experience PDP built and nurtured in the last 16 years.
The party image-maker also urged PDP members, teeming supporters and the electorate in Rivers to remain calm, come out enmass and vote for all PDP candidates in the elections.
“Rivers State is the home of the PDP and we are sure of victory in all.”
