Christina Bond had carved out a comfortable, exciting life for herself.
After high school, she had served two tours as a military police officer in the United States Navy. At 55, she worked as an administrator of her church. She stayed in good shape, taking home the 2013 Miss Michigan Figure Overall Championship. In her spare time, she was an active member in the Christian Motorcycle Association.
But Bond, who had recently been elected as a Republican Precinct Delegate for St. Joseph Charter Precinct 1, died in a freak accident on New Year's Day. The gun in her bra fired accidentally, hitting Bond in the eye and killing her, according to newly released autopsy details.
"She was having trouble adjusting her bra holder, couldn't get it to fit the way she wanted it to," St. Joseph Public Safety Director Mark Clapp tells The Kalamazoo Gazette. "She was looking down at it and accidentally discharged the weapon."
Bond was rushed to a nearby hospital then airlifted to a second hospital, where she died the following day. She leaves behind two sons and six grandchildren.
Now friends and family are mourning the loss of the vivacious woman with a fun sense of humor. In an online obituary, the family wrote, "she was a light to the world and will be missed."
