American Horror Story Casts Lady Gaga and Reveals Season 5 Theme
Lady Gaga and American Horror Story? It’s a match made in monster heaven. Fresh off the heels of her victorious Oscar-night performance, the singer took to Twitter to announce her involvement in the FX horror anthology.
The big news is not only the casting, but also the reveal of Season 5’s theme. Each year, American Horror Story has a subtitle, and, according to Gaga, the watchword this year is “hotel.” This obliterates the prevailing fan theory that Season 5 would cover the gruesome fallout of chemical warfare. Instead, we should probably expect something a little closer to Disney’s Tower of Terror. Except, you know, with actual bloodshed.
But spooky bellhops and mysterious maids aside, what can we expect from Lady Gaga? Well, we already know that Season 5 will (a) have a modern setting and (b) undergo a fairly redial re-invention. There were many who hoped that re-invention would entice series star Jessica Lange to stay. But, if last season’s send-off is any indication, Lange won’t be darkening the hallways and creaky elevators of American Horror Story: Hotel.
As for Gaga, well, she doesn’t have a ton of acting experience. (Unless you count her entire persona.) She’s had smaller roles in the films Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, but is she ready to step into a leading role? She’ll be more than able to handle any of American Horror Story’s musical moments, but will her star power (which was on display in spades at the Oscars) be enough to fill the hole Lange leaves behind? We’ll have to find out when American Horror Story: Hotel premieres this October.
