Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have rescued 14 passengers, who were kidnapped on Thursday by gunmen.
The rescue was said to have come less than 24 hours after they (bus passengers) were abducted around Rumuji in Emohua Local Government Area of the state by the alleged kidnappers.
It will be recalled that the passengers were traveling from Warri in Delta State to Port-Harcourt on Thursday when the bus conveying them was hijacked by gunmen before they were whisked away to an unknown destination.
The victims were said to have been dragged into the bush by their captors, who later demanded for N14 million before they would be released.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, the rescue was made possible by a well-meaning Nigerian, who gave information to the police on the whereabouts of the kidnap victims.
Omoni disclosed that the police swung into action, combed the bush before engaging the hoodlums in a shoot-out.
Omoni, however, warned kidnappers and other criminals to desist from their acts or be ready to face the wrath of the law whenever they were apprehended.
