The Benue State Police Command has arrested 25 persons in connection to the attack on Igumale Police Station in the Ado Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday afternoon during a raid on criminal hideouts in the area and had been undergoing investigation at the command headquarters in Makurdi to establish the level of their culpability.
Gunmen on motorcycles had laid a siege to the station in the early hours of Sunday, killing three of the policemen on a duty post and gained access to the division’s armoury, carting away arms.
While a policeman died on the spot, two others died at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, where they were rushed to for treatment. A police inspector, which led the team and a corporal were critically injured.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the arrest, said the command was on the trail of the assailants, adding that the gunmen did not succeed in freeing suspects being detained at the station.
The PRO, however, said two policemen were killed while the inspector and a corporal were responding to treatments at the hospital.
