"Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably," a rep confirmed to People. That is excellent news, especially because Jackson delivered Eissa at 50 years old; at her age, there are risks for women who want to conceive a baby naturally.
"Genetic risk to the fetus increases after a woman turns 40, and the pregnancy has a higher incidence of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm birth, and caesarean section," Dr. Christopher Sipe of the Fertility Centers of Illinois told Glamour. Those risks are important to know, of course, but it doesn't mean they're guaranteed.
In fact, Sipe said that the "most likely outcome of a pregnancy is a healthy full-term pregnancy" for women over 40. Fortunately, that seems to be the case for Janet Jackson.
