What is a subpoena????

So being a movie slut i watch a whole lot of movies. Series i mean! When I'm not in class of getting some work done or looking at Instagram. I'm watching series. So in the series suits this word is used often suits is a series that centers on law and lawyers and a whole lot of drama, and even another series drop dead diva the word "Subpoena is been used, in the series scandal also the word Subpoena (I used to spell it like so serpina na wa sha.)is always used.And I've always wondered what it meant. It wasn't until this new episode of " how to get away with murder" that I decided to find out what it means. It's actually a law term.I'm not a lawyer so excuse me for not knowing what it means. Sooo

   A Subpoena according to Michael .R. Nack, Attorney at law... this is a legal document which, when issued and served properly, requires a person's appearance in court or perhaps a deposition.
